Phoenix Energy supported Michel Haddad’s climb of Raouche Rock to promote a message of determination in the face of adversity.
Phoenix Energy, a Lebanese renewable energy supplier, sponsored Michel Haddad’s daring climb of Raouche Rock on 8 June, World Oceans Day 2014. Haddad, a 33-year-old athlete with a physical disability, overcame a personal obstacle by successfully completing the risky challenge, as a part of his 'Defying Disability to the Top’ awareness campaign. In line with its community-based mission, Phoenix Energy offered technical support to build the mechanism that Haddad used while climbing the Raouche Rock. Phoenix Energy Sales Manager, Ibrahim Baz, represented the company at the event, which was broadcasted live on LBC.
The campaign ran under the supervision and guidance of Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General, Jean Kahwagi and in collaboration with the Municipality of Beirut, the Syndicate of Physical Therapy and the Big Blue Association. The professional athlete climbed and planted the Lebanese flag on top of Raouche Rock as an emblem of his achievement.
Haddad lost function of over 75% of his body, 26 years ago in a Jet Ski accident. He inspires many due to his strong perseverance not to let his handicap stop him from following his dreams. He hoped this climb would inspire others like him to be determined in the face of adversity.
