Interesting Innovations at FEA Student Conference 2012
Some designs submitted by students drew a great amount of attention due to the ingenuity and attractiveness. Below are some:
Smartphone App that Tracks Taxis Around Town
Students developed a server that collects data from smart phones after receiving client request to suggest the most suited taxi. The server evaluates cost, passenger waiting time, as well as taxi driver interest.
Electric Umbrella with Heating & Cooling Options
A team of engineering students created 'Eco-Brella', an eco-friendly and water-proof solar power harvester resembling an umbrella. The innovation, constructed with a solar thin film, offers users heating or cooling, as well as energy to charge a cell phone, laptop, etc…
Fitness Bike Renewable Energy System
Another group of students developed a fitness bicycle that converts mechanical energy from the user’s motion to renewable energy.
Some students submitted a project about creating recycled concrete from construction and demolition waste to reduce the industry’s negative environmental impact.
Winning teams received monetary prizes for their efforts during a reception and awards ceremony held on 17 May 2012.
