Beirut River Solar Snake Energy Solution Reels in Skeptics, An-Nahar Newspaper Reports

An-Nahar newspaper sheds light on the Beirut River Solar Snake (BRSS), bringing into perspective the opinions of skeptics, as well as the potential positive results of the project.

The Beirut River Solar Snake (BRSS) Project is a promising alternative to Lebanon’s current energy crisis, but is it efficient enough? Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) and the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water launched the project in response to Lebanon’s goal to source at least 12% of electricity consumption from renewable energy by 2020. The 3 million dollar BRSS project, located along the Beirut River, promises to provide 1 MW of electricity to at least a thousand homes in close proximity to the river. It is, however, a sample project that residents hope will be replicated in areas outside Beirut. The project was split into stages, the first of which contracted Phoenix-ASACO joint venture to complete installation of 1 MW photovoltaic (PV) panels by 2015.
