Neemat Frem delivered the keynote speech at Project Lebanon’s specialized discussion panel on the topic of ‘Lebanon Opportunities & Challenges in the Reconstruction of Syria’ on 31 May 2016 at BIEL, Beirut. The panel welcomed UN-ESCWA representatives, leading experts from Syria and Lebanon, and international diplomats and government officials to discuss international efforts in the development of the Syrian infrastructure, the opportunities to launch construction projects, and Lebanon’s respective role.
During his keynote speech, Frem emphasized that development contributes to building peace by offering job opportunities, the solution to all problems in the Middle East. Frem focused on the role Lebanon and its government must play in helping Syria stand up once again and in reducing conflicts in surrounding communities.
Frem highlighted how Lebanon provides a good model in creating stability and growth and how the country sets the perfect example for multi-cultural acceptance and communication due to its components. He emphasized that, communities should accept one another and peacefully coexist, and this is Lebanon’s message for a stable, fair, and peaceful environment for Lebanon, Syria, the region and the world.
Frem went on to call for a new reborn Syria focused on economic growth and job creation and built on 3 pillars: Freedom, equality through participation, and secure diversity. He discussed how the private sector, spirit of initiative, positive vision, and skilled HR saved Lebanon from the perils that loomed throughout various crisis. Frem highlighted the importance of the private sector in Syria and the role the Syrian youth will play in rebuilding the country.
Lebanon is more than capable and has proved successful in propelling the development and growth of the Arab world, Gulf, and Africa and will stand by Syria when the moment comes with high hopes that the crisis will come to an end soon.
