In line with corporate philosophy ‘What is good for the community, is good for the company’, Interstate Container Reading helped KGD Architecture contribute to the Arlington Food Assistance Center’s annual ‘Canstruction’ contest on 14 November 2014. Interstate Container Reading, a corrugated packaging manufacturing plant, supplied KGD Architecture with the corrugated sheets needed to build a 9-foot homage made of seafood cans.
With the closing of the season and the Nats playoffs approaching, KGD Architecture decided to design and set-up a replica of Jayson Werth, an American Major League Baseball outfielder for the Washington Nationals, in order to bring attention to a good cause. The architectural company selected Interstate Container Reading to provide, separate, and cut-out corrugated layers with special shapes to support the food cans consistent with their design.
One week after receiving the CAD designs, Interstate Container Reading delivered the sheets, executing the given designs precisely. The corrugated packaging manufacturer worked fast to deliver the sliced corrugated sheets to provide KGD Architecture gnome team sufficient time to build and test. Interstate Container Reading also organized the layers of corrugated sheets by numbers, making it easier for the team of 10 to set-up the gnome at Reagan National Airport using 2,263 cans ($3,800 worth) of seafood.
Although they did not win, KGD Architecture raised $7,000 for the project and donated the unused funds to the Arlington Food Assistance Center.
