INDEVCO attended UN Global Compact (UNGC) Network Lebanon’s ‘Making Global Goals Local Business Middle East’ (MGGLB) forum on 14 October 2019 at the Grand Serail in Beirut, Lebanon. During the event, INDEVCO was recognized for its sustainable achievements toward SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production.
This year, MGGLB forum brought together all Global Compact Local Networks in the Middle East with regional and global leaders from business, civil society, and government to catalyse actions affecting UNGC Ten Principles and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SDG Milestones Award
The SDG Milestones Award recognizes Lebanese businesses that are setting Lebanon on a more sustainable path by advancing action towards the 17 SDGs.
Out of 50 submissions, Global Compact Network Lebanon selected INDEVCO as the winner for the SDG Milestones Awards under the Big Corporations category for achievements towards SDG12- Responsible Consumption and Production.
As an industrial manufacturing group, INDEVCO companies source and use sustainable raw materials, power plants with renewable energy and eco-friendly energy products, and establish a circular economy to recycle industrial plastic scrap and manufacture recycled plastic packaging products.
INDEVCO is working towards four of SDG12 targets by:
- Reducing consumption of non-renewable raw materials and energy (Target 12.2)
- Increasing responsible paper sourcing (12.2)
- Enhancing plastic recycling capabilities (12.5)
- Emphasizing a circular economy of plastics to reduce landfilling and resulting greenhouse gas emissions (12.2, 12.5, & 12.8)
- Reporting progress annually (12.6)
The UNGC also featured INDEVCO in the ‘Zooming on SDG Trends in Lebanon’ magazine which provides insight into the company’s efforts towards SDG12- Responsible Consumption and Production.
Young SDG Pioneers Lebanon
During the forum, INDEVCO’s Global Communication & Sustainability Manager, Gacia Apikian Bazhouny, was recognized for reaching the top 4 finalists of the Young SDG Pioneers Lebanon for her efforts in advancing sustainability through the implementation and the integration of the SDGs in INDEVCO operations and strategy.
