Interstate Paper Industries (IPI) has successfully implemented three major upgrades to its PM4 drying system, aimed at reducing energy consumption, increasing productivity, and enhancing safety.

These strategic enhancements are part of the company’s broader efforts to optimize performance while supporting sustainability goals.

Installation of Valmet Advantage Air Cap on PM4

IPI installed a state-of-the-art Valmet Advantage Air Cap to modernize the drying system and deliver tangible efficiency gains:

  • 10% reduction in gas consumption
  • 6% increase in productivity
  • Enhanced safety and fire prevention with an automatic washable roof, improving cleanliness and reducing operational risks

Upgrade of PM4 Hood System with FIVES Burners and Combustion Fans

The installation of new FIVES burners and combustion fans on the PM4 hood system helped streamline fuel usage and system reliability:

  • 5% reduction in gas consumption
  • Improved system reliability and uptime
  • Enhanced safety features, reducing operational downtime

Installation of Head Insulation on 15ft Yankee Dryer

To improve thermal efficiency and fire safety, IPI added a new head insulation to the 15ft Yankee Dryer:

  • 7% reduction in steam consumption
  • Lower fire risk by safeguarding the dryer’s edges
  • 7% improvement in Yankee dryer efficiency
