Future TV, a local Lebanese broadcasting TV station, invited Rabih Osta as a guest speaker on the Aalam Al Sabbah Program – El Helo Bi Loubnan on 16 November 2013 at the TV studio in Beirut Hall, Sin l Fil, Lebanon. The daily morning show, hosted by Ghada, discussed Phoenix Energy, renewable energy solutions, and the latest local initiatives to promote environmental awareness in Lebanon.
During the interview, Osta spoke about growing demand for eco-friendly products and financial and environmental benefits from shifting to renewable energy solutions. Osta also discussed Phoenix Energy’s latest initiatives with the nonprofit Phellipolis and several Lebanese municipalities to help Lebanon begin shifting to eco-friendly home and water heating, and lighting solutions.
Osta speaks about:
- Biomass boilers which utilize olive husks, pine cones, and tree waste as fuel, rather than diesel
- Solar water heaters that uses sunlight to heat water and offer a lifetime of over 20 years
- Photovoltaic (PV) panels which generate power from sunlight, as well as LED lighting
- Catalytic filters that reduce carbon particles and pollution when installed on exhaust pipes of generators

Aalam Al Sabbah Program – El Helo Bi Loubnan Interview
On Aalam Al Sabah program, Osta highlighted that use and demand renewable energy products increases annually, with new developments facilitating demand further. By end Q4 2013, PE has installed 300 biomass boilers which generate approximately 20,000 kW of energy, reducing 700 tons of CO2.
Since locals worry about high costs, the National Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Action (NEERA) facilitates the shift to eco-friendly products by collaborating with the Lebanese Central Bank (Banque du Liban) to offer loans at 0% interest over 10 – 14 years.
Osta also helped viewers better understand steps to follow if interested in shifting from diesel boilers to biomass boilers:
- Submit a request through the NEERA program
- PE handles all paper work and management issues and in 10 days applicants will receive approval
- PE installs biomass boiler at the premises
- Applicants pay full amount through installments over 10 years with no interest; 70 – 90 $ /monthly depending on the size of the boiler (40 – 150 kW), ROI is in 1 year
‘Harissa goes Green’ Project
Osta presented the ‘Harissa goes Green’ project, objectives, and accomplishments during the show. Phoenix Energy installed three 100 kW biomass boilers at the Our Lady of Lebanon Sanctuary – Harissa, removing CO emissions and reducing CO2 emissions. Our Lady of Lebanon Sanctuary – Harissa saved $80,000 in one year, thus covering initial cost of $70,000.
Phoenix Energy will also install photovoltaic power system and LED lights at Our Lady of Lebanon Sanctuary – Harissa. The ‘Harissa goes Green’ project aims to:
1- Reduce costs
2- Reduce pollution
3- Reduce harm to farmers
Phoenix Energy Cooperation Protocols with Lebanese Municipalities
Phoenix Energy works with Lebanese municipalities and national associations in order to offer municipalities eco-friendly solutions and help reduce costs. Phoenix Energy and Phellipolis began signing environment protocols with municipalities:
- Phoenix Energy provides all studies and consultancies to municipalities
- Phellipolis offers financial support to the initiative by providing a one year supply of olive husk, approximately 5 Tons, as well as paying $200 from the cost of a solar water heater
The interview also featured a short video with testimonials from municipalities about Phoenix Energy’s initiative.
