IPI launched the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) project in July 2014 in coordination with the Strategy and Continuous Improvement Unit at INDEVCO Paper Containers Division. The PPE project focuses on design and implementation of a comprehensive system for PPE enforcement in which priority PPEs were identified as: feet protection, head protection & eye protection.
The first phase of the safety system prioritizes head protection by defining and setting guidelines which indicate when, where, and how to wear the carefully-selected helmets. In line with the new procedure, the helmet use applies to the plant staff plant staff, as well as the administration staff whenever entering the plant premises. When visiting IPI plant, external visitors and contractors are required to wear the regular safety helmet. By wearing a safety helmet, IPI staff and visitors reduce the risk of head injuries and concussions.
The customized helmet, similar to a standard baseball cap, offers performance and style. The helmet includes a removable liner which is machine washable to ensure hygiene. All color-ways have subtle reflective piping for increased visibility.
Kamel Khalil, Interstate Paper Industries Quality & HSE Manager, explains,
“Reliable protection that looks good! This new hard cap ensures safety and optimal comfort while giving our team a uniform appearance. We look forward to implement the full PPE project. This is in line with our company mission to turn Interstate Paper Industries into a state-of-the-art tissue mill through implementation and development of best practices and high performing safety cultures.”
