As part of the manufacturer’s on-going participation in environmental awareness initiatives, Sanitacollaborates with Jordan Environment Society and the Directorate of Education to clean up the city of Aqaba, Jordan. The cleaning initiative took place on 28 April 2013, as part of the worldwide celebration of International Mother Earth Day to promote environmental protection.

The cleaning project aimed at encouraging volunteerism fostering commitment from Aqaba residents and students to sustainable practices, including recycling and use of eco-friendly products.

‘For a Cleaner City’ Initiative in Jordan

Jordan Environment Society, nongovernmental association, organized this activity with local agencies as a part of “Local Agenda 21 in Territorial Planning, in Waste Management and Energy”, a project financed by the European Program and lead by the Province of Viterbo (Italy).

Over 100 students and volunteers worked together to clean up the beach of Aqaba and the Castle Yard. In order to facilitate the cleanup, Sanita distributed waste bags and gloves to residents and students. As part of the campaign, participants distributed and promoted environmental benefits of over 200 Canvas bags in two different shopping malls in Aqaba.

The event also included a student competition focused on the significance of recycling and interactive discussions engaging participants in a joint effort to preserve natural resources and comprehend the importance of waste regeneration. Nisreen Bajjali, Sanita Marketing Specialist, and Moen Nsayra, Jordanian Environmental Association representative, accorded gifts to competition winners.

During the event, distinguished personalities shared views on the importance of recycling and effective waste management. The event was inaugurated by Ahmad Al-Kofahi, Jordan Environment Society CEO and Local Coordinator of the Agenda 21 project, and Dr. Mohannad Hararah, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Environment Affairs and Health Monitoring Commissioner. Two media channels covered the event, Hayat FM and Roya TV.
