On World Cleanup Day, 21 September 2019, Hejaz Ploggers, Napco National, and Maersk launched the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s first cleanup initiative as part of the global event. Volunteers gathered to plog, jog and pick up litter, along the Northern Corniche in Jeddah and spread environmental awareness. Today over 180 countries participate in World Cleanup Day, launched internationally in 2011.
World Cleanup Day
World Cleanup Day originally began in Estonia in 2008, where over 50,000 people worked together to clean up the entire country in 5 hours. The success of the event caught on as the cleanup concept spread worldwide. In 2011, the initiative became an international movement based in New Zealand.
