For the consecutive year, Unipak and Masterpak support the Lebanese Packaging Center (LibanPack) efforts to encourage packaging creativity, and increase user-friendly and environmentally-friendly packaging. Masterpak manufactures polyethylene (PE) films and bags, and sister company Unipak manufactures corrugated packaging products.Under the patronage of the Lebanese Minister of Industry, Vrej Sabounjian, the 3rd edition of Lebanon Student StarPack took place on 7 March 2012 at UNESCO Palace in Beirut, Lebanon.

Lebanon Student StarPack 2012 promoted originality and offered university students the opportunity to submit innovative packaging designs. The event focused on the importance of packaging structural design, branding, and labeling (including nutrients facts).

Unipak General Manager, Marwan Diab, presented the Unipak Award for best Innovative Package Designwhile both companies, Masterpak and Unipak marked a strong presence through their corporate booth at the event exhibition.

About Lebanon Student StarPack 2012

The Student StarPack 2012 award ceremony, presented by Clemence Achkar, Miss Lebanon 1998, commenced with the StarPack movie and a brief introduction to the organizer, LibanPack. The event emphasizes the role of youth in designing and focuses on packaging as a ‘silent seller’ and its impact on exports and increasing sales.

As the first packaging competition of its kind in the Middle East region, Lebanon Student StarPack stimulates packaging innovation in visual and structural design. This year, the event included performances by the Fayhaa choir, as well as various speeches from:

1-     Soha Atallah Beyhom, LibanPack Director & UNIDO National Project Coordinator
2-     Dr. Fadi Gemayel, LibanPack President
3-     Ziad Bekdache, Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI) Vice President (Represented Neemat Frem, ALI President)
4-     Khaled El Mekwad, UNIDO representative
5-     Rose Flint, Swiss Ambassador
6-     Vrej Sabounjian, Lebanese Minister of Industry

Speeches addressed the environmental aspects of packaging, recyclable and sustainable packaging, energy costs, as well as packaging effects on health. Speakers also brought up the importance of packaging role in retail, and how packaging attracts customers and offers an important strategic tool for sales.
